Empty lot at corner of Robinson St and Clark Ave

There is an empty lot at the corner of Robinson Street and Clark Avenue. Up until recently, it had a short wooden fence/barrier that anyone could step over and wander through the lot. I don’t have a picture of what it used to look like, but this is how Google Maps shows it from a couple of years ago. You can tell that there was a lot of grass growing in and around the lot.

Now the lot has been cleaned up (more gravel put down) and a chain-link fence has gone up. There are no other signs on the lot to say what the changes are leading to.

This lot was once used as Skylon parking lot C. When the other lots got full, they would sent a kid over to the little booth to collect parking fees. When Fallsview Casino was being built, it was used as a parking/staging area. I’m not sure who even owns it, but it is probably Niagara 21st Group as this is where their new hotel is to be. Can’t imagine why they would fix it up like this.

I posted about a month ago on my site about being told that this will be turned into a parking lot, I just found it funny that they would bring in a trailer for that kind of work. I also mentioned that they would be ripping down the old houses along the street which they have also done. Now after leveling off all of the gravel and installing chain link fencing all the way around the property, yesterday they brought in a bulldozer and pushed all of the gravel off to the side again and have stakes placed everywhere. My whole point is that this is obviously more then just a parking lot. I have also noticed workers at the defunct Crowne Plaza Hotel site over the last few day’s? Work is also going on at Hooters, Renaissance Hotel parking lot and the former Maple Leaf hotel looks like it will become another parking lot, not sure how many we need?

Seeing activity at the Crowne Plaza in encouraging. It has become quite an eyesore.

It looks like they’re finally going to build the Freefall Center at Hooters. They’ve only been advertising it for 3 years.

I can’t believe that the Maple Leaf property is a parking lot. I thought it would be prime property for redevelopement, being so close to the Casino.

Rick, when/how did you hear about the freefall being built? I have been looking forward to trying that out for so long. I’ve still been meaning to try out their paintless paintball.

I don’t know that for sure Dan, but there is a crane and 2 construction trailers onsite so it’s just my uneducated guess.

Newsflash Dan, according to the Niagara Freefall website,
*Windtunnel is Under Construction and Will be Opening Soon!*

Hahaha Rick that website has said that for quite some time (a couple of years now)! I’m going to have to take a better look next time I’m around. If there is a crane, something must be going on.

I’m by there almost every day and I have never noticed anything new there.

If you go around back you can see what looks to be a tubular structure which is being formed/built and could house the windtunnel. The crane has been on the site for quite some time and as Rick had mentioned there are 2 trailers in the parking lot. I think that they are being used for the Hilton expansion though. Also there is an old building just down the road from Hooters on Allendale avenue between Robinson and Murray, it has sat empty for a long time and has had workers there for a couple of months renovating it, it has a Public Notice on the front but I haven’t bothered to stop and read it yet.

Fallsview, do you recall me mentioning a while ago about a souvenir store/tour office/lodging place that I thought was going to be behind Cupolo’? I think I had the wrong location, and that this building on Allendale (Zippo plant?) is actually where it is.

Yae Rick I remember! I wonder if anything is going to go in where the former Impala Hotel was located then?
